Vernon (Vern) James Weller, 89, was called to his eternal home in heaven on 11/4/20. He passed peacefully at AdventHealth in Shawnee, KS.
Vern was born Nov. 5, 1930 in Northern NE, to Myron and Josephine Weller. He proudly served in the army and fell in love with Germany and Austria and their beautiful mountains. He retired from the USPS and started selling specialty advertising. He married the love of his life Dorothy Weller, whom he never stopped calling his beautiful bride. They both enjoyed yearly trips to Germany and Austria, hiking the mountains, swinging on adult swings, dining, enjoying wine and especially time with each other.
He loved sports, coaching, playing and watching, especially football.
He was a long-term parishioner of St. Anthony-St. Marys Catholic Church in KC, KS and served as an usher. He lived a very prayerful life with Padre Pio being his favorite inspirational Saint.
You could always find Vern and his bride almost every Saturday night in their special booth at the Savoy Grill, one of their first dates. He loved the holidays, especially Christmas and Christmas tree hunting with his children and grandchildren. He loved each dog he had, all but one were named "Iggy".
Vern is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dorothy,
He was a loving and nurturing father of four children, Debbie Thomas (husband, John), Cindy Wittman (husband, David) Vernon, Jr. (wife, Loretta) and Tom (wife, Joan). He had 9 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren which he loved dearly. Vern was preceded in death by brothers, Lyle and Roland.
Vern was patient, kind, persevering, compassionate, spiritual and will be remembered for his sense of humor, love of life, his inspiration and proven strength in all he endured.
He will be missed greatly by all. Dad, thank you for lessons learned and never forgotten. Our love continues to grow for you. We will meet again.
