Theresa Rose Wohletz, 84, and Gerald Paul Wohletz, 88, of Shawnee, Kansas, passed away Monday, January 17, 2022 and Friday, January 21, 2022, respectively. Funeral services will be on Friday, January 28 beginning with Visitation from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m., Praying of the Rosary at 10:00 a.m., and Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 274 Orchard St., Kansas City, Kansas. Burial immediately follows at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Kansas City, Kansas.
Theresa was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Mary (Fugina) Viscek; five brothers, Frank, Br. Gregory OSB, Aloysius, Charlie and Bernie Viscek; three sisters, Mary Wolf, Anne Horan and Margaret Racki; and an infant daughter, Jane F. Wohletz.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Alta (Winterscheidt) Wohletz; three brothers, Robert, Larry and Bernie Wohletz; and an infant daughter, Jane F. Wohletz.
They are survived by six children, Janet (John) Hart, Julie (John) Schneller, Joanne (Tom) Ohmes, Jerry (Jane) Wohletz, John (Lisa) Wohletz and Jeanne (Brian) Cline; eighteen grandchildren, John (Avani) Hart, Sarah Hart, Emily Hart, JR (Christy) Schneller, Jennifer (Joshua) Pugliese, Laura Lynn (Michael) LaPointe, Nicholas (Samantha) Ohmes, Danny (Emily) Ohmes, Mary (Steven) Stout, Cyndi (John) Hanson, Jerry (Callie) Wohletz, Katie Wohletz (Stone), Madeline Wohletz, Jessica Wohletz, Hannah Wohletz, Luke Cline, Kate Cline and Paul Cline; and twenty-one great grandchildren, Bernie, Henry, Lucki Hart; Sam Hart; Lucy and Miles Schneller; Liliana, Emilia and Arianna Pugliese; John Paul and Emily LaPointe; Olivia Ohmes; Bradley, Parker, Hudson and Jeremiah Ohmes; Connor and Jackson Stout; Maggie Hanson; and Owen and Grace Wohletz. Theresa is survived by a sister-in-law, Mary Alice Viscek, and her family in Slovenia. Gerald is survived by a brother, Mark Wohletz, and two sisters-in-law, Juanita Wohletz and Vicki Wohletz.
Theresa was a member of the Holy Family Altar Society, the Holy Family Social Club, and St. Veronica Lodge, KSKJ Life. After a short career with TWA, she became a homemaker, raising her six children and later enjoying her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was so proud of all of them. Theresa was also proud of her Slovenian heritage and made many Slovenian specialties such as potica and strudel. She enjoyed many hobbies throughout her life including crocheting, making afghans for all her children and grandchildren, ceramics, making piggy banks for all the grandchildren, and many nativity sets.
Gerald was honored to have served in the United States Navy. He was a member of the Holy Family Holy Name Society, the Holy Family Social Club, St. Veronica Lodge, KSKJ Life, and was a member of the school board at Bishop Ward High School. Gerald spent half his career as a self-employed businessman, and he retired from a career at the United States Postal Service. He enjoyed carpentry, using his skills to remodel his sons and daughters starter homes after marriage. He enjoyed his time farming on his land in Pleasant Hill, Missouri, and later his son and daughter-in-laws farm in Lawrence, Kansas. Gerald was an avid KU basketball fan who once requested his cardiologist to delay his procedure until after the basketball game that weekend. He spent his free time talking with and about his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Both Theresa and Gerald were dedicated parishioners of Holy Family Catholic Church and its various organizations and were happy to serve in any capacity needed.
