Stephanie M. George, 74
Stephanie passed-away early evening from natural causes at the Bonner Springs nursing facility on Tuesday June 2nd.
She was born December 1st, 1945 in Kansas City, Kansas as the only child to Josephine Ladesich and Marvin Hammersmith. She graduated from Washington High School in KCK in 1963.
Her mother was already a bit of a local celebrity, performing on radio with brother and sister. So, Stephanie and Josephine decided to try their luck in the Golden State. She and her mother traveled to San Fernando Valley in 1968 to pursue and entertainment career. They were successful with Jo on the piano and Stevie Kay on vocals. That exposure was a calculus to launch Stephanie into an entertainment and modeling career that took her on a whirlwind adventure across the globe for more than 15 years.
In the meantime, she married and had 3 daughters. In 1981 she brought her mother and daughters back to Kansas City to raise her family. She pursued a professional serving and bartending career, known as Stevie to her favorite customers. With practically an empty nest, in 1989 she decided to further her education and go back to college. Graduating with top honors from Kansas City Kansas Community College and on to UMKC School of Law, where she graduated Magnum Cum Laude in 1997. From there she enjoyed her work as a Book Editor at Herff Jones book publishing in Kansas City. She retired at the age of 64.
Beautiful, talented, brilliant and a true survivor. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She leaves her 3 daughters, Lisa Scoby, Fran George, Erica George and granddaughter, Angelina George-Blankney.
