Sophia (Piskuric) Makar, 78 of Kansas City, KS passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2015, at Providence Medical Center in KCKS. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, July 14, at 10 am, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 708 N. 4th St., KCKS. Visitation will be from 5 7 pm Monday July 13th at Skradski Funeral Home , 340 N. 6th KCKS; Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Johns Catholic Church or Catholic Charities.
Born, August 12, 1936 in Jesenovica, Croatia, she was the daughter of Franjo and Mara (Andrisevic) Piskuric. Sophia and husband Stjepan came over from Croatia in 1970 with their two children Steve and Mary. They built a strong family together, and her family always came first. She had a passion for cooking, gardening, designing and sewing. She passed those qualities through the generations.
Preceding Sophia in death are parents, husband and three brothers Josip, Frank and Petar Piskuric. Sophia is survived by her son Steve (Lillian) Makar; grandchildren Jennifer (Phill) Reynolds and Steven Makar; great-grandchildren Kendall & Keaton Reynolds; daughter Mary (Nikola) Zeljeznjak; granddaughter Jessica (Frank) Zeljeznjak-Robison; great-grandchildren Sophia and Nikolas Robison; granddaughter Christina Zeljeznjak; her sisters Ana (Josip) Dolinar and Marica (Albin) Kovac in Slovenija; and nieces and nephews.
