Sister Luisa Irizarry

Sister Luisa Irizarry, Servant of Mary, Minister to the Sick, 100, passed away September 3 at the convent where she lived, surrounded by all the Sisters of her religious community. Friends may pay their respects at the Sisters Chapel, 800 N. 18th St. Kansas City, KS on September 7, 5-7 p.m. The Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. and the Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated September 8 at 10:00 a.m. followed by interment at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
Sister Luisa was born in San German, Puerto Rico on July 1, 1921. She entered religious life on December 8, 1946 in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and professed her temporary vows on July 5, 1949. She came to the United States in 1949 and professed her perpetual vows on July 5, 1955. She spent most of her life in Newbury Park, CA and came to Kansas City, KS 7 years ago to be with her blood sister, Sister Ester also a Servant of Mary.
Sister Luisa is remembered for her kindness, simplicity, humility, self-giving, and unending smile. She had a special love for her work in the kitchen at the Nursing Home in Newbury Park CA, cooking for the residents. She joyfully lived her consecration to God in total dedication to the service of the sick and her Sisters. Sister Luisa was most edifying in her last illness, she was deeply loved by all the Sisters; many tears were shed at her passing and will be greatly missed by all her religious Community.
She was preceded in death by her parents and several brothers and sisters and is survived by her sisters, Sr. Ester (Servant of Mary), Rosa and Amelia, her nice Elizabeth and several nieces and nephews. (Arrangements: Skradski Funeral Home, Kansas City, KS (913) 371-1404)
