Shirley Jean (Howes) Troutwine passed away in Kansas City, MO on Thursday Aug. 10, 2017 at Kansas City Hospice. Visitation is 9:30-10:30 AM with a memorial service to follow immediately afterwards on Tuesday August 15, 2017 at Skradski Funeral Home, 340 N. 6th Street in Kansas City, KS. A grave site service and burial on the same day is at 4:00 PM at the Sheridan Cemetery in Sheridan, MO.
Shirley was born to Willard and Hazel (Lucas) Howes in Gravity, Iowa on October 28, 1929. She attended Sheridan High School and married Eugene "Buster" Troutwine in 1947. They made their home in Sheridan, MO where they ran a family farm and had four children. Shirley was an active member of the Sheridan Stitch and Chatter Club. Buster and Shirley moved to Camdenton, MO in the early 1970s to open Busters Liquor and Bait store. After Buster died in 1976 she continued to run the store by herself until she sold it in 1984. Shirley then worked at the Lake of the Ozarks Developmental Center in Camdenton for many years often doing additional respite care. She was a talented cake decorator, an avid bingo player, a gardener, a basket collector and a crafts enthusiast. Shirley was a generous soul who had a sassy disposition and a true gift of the gab. She loved the holidays and enjoyed making them extra special for her family, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by her four children, Diane Estes of KCMO, Eddie Troutwine of Plattsburg, MO, Randy (Cheryl) Troutwine of Bertrand, MO and Sandy Jeffries of Columbia, MO; her 9 grandchildren, Susan (Michael Crosby) Estes of KC,KS, Robin (Charlie) Martin of Houston, TX, Ginni (Erik) Bjerkhoel of Roseville, CA, Tiffany Warren of Atlanta, GA, Rachel (James) Senzee of Jefferson City, Brian (Hope Waggoner) Troutwine of San Francisco, CA, Derrick (Cynthia Lam) Jeffries of Leavenworth, KS, Dustin (Jason Housman) Troutwine of Cape Girardeau, MO, Danielle (Stephen) Mikels of Sikeston, MO; and 7 great grandchildren, Paxton and Logan Martin of Houston, TX, Alyssia Goodwin and Nicole Cordova of Roseville, CA, and Avery Senzee of Jefferson City, MO., Scott Cutler of Cape Girardeau, MO., and PFC Brittany Cutler of Fort Sill, OK. She is also survived by her sister Marjorie Johnson of Shenandoah, IA and her brother Gary Howes of Moore, OK; her sisters-in-law Mary Howes of St. Joseph, MO, and Leda Lester of Riverton, WY; and many nieces and nephews.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; husband Buster; her sisters, Norma Ewart of Sheridan, MO, Deloris Lester of Riverton, WY and Phyllis Stanton of Clarinda, IA; her brothers Gayland Howes of Altus, OK and Floyd Howes of St. Joseph, MO.
