Mary was born March 26, 1918 in Kansas City, KS, to Juan and Victoria (Quiroz) Carpio. She spent her life taking care of her late husband, Charles Montes and family members. Mary was employed by Swift & Co. for 36 years. She enjoyed sharing stories of her softball team, the 1941 Ladies Azteca Softball Team where she played first base, performed in Mexican Fiesta at Mt. Carmel Church, lots of family picnics at Swope Park and Fairyland Park, Christmas Mid-Night Masses with family and friends. Her impoverished childhood years were bleak but she met them as an adventure. Her limited education did not prevent her from supporting herself or her family. Her faith in God provided the hope to meet lifes challenges. She was especially proud of her great-grandchildren, lovingly known as "mi hijitos". She is dearly missed by her family.
Surviving are daughter, Rose (Felix) Arroyo of Kansas City, MO., grandchildren; Tim (Stephanie) Arroyo, Columbia, MO., Tracy Ann (Brad) Porter, Kansas City, MO., great-grandchildren; Madison Arroyo, Jackson and James Porter, nephew; Ken (Pauline) Carpio, Chesterfield, MO., great-nephew; Jake Carpio, great-niece; Jen Bisch. Cousins: Quiroz family: Albert, Richard, Helen, Stella and the Montes family; John, Larry, Bobby, Bea, Loretta and Helen.
