Mary Ann Mikesic, 86 of Kansas City, Kansas passed away Tuesday, November 19, 2019, at University of Kansas Medical Center. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Friday, November 29, 2019, at St. John The Baptist Catholic Church, 708 N. 4th, Kansas City, KS. A Rosary will be prayed at 4:00 PM. The Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM on Saturday at St. John The Baptist Catholic Church. Burial to follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Kansas City, KS. Mary Ann was born, May 18, 1933 in Kansas City, Kansas, to John G. and Mary B. (Krisman) Mikesic. Mary Ann became a "big sister" in 1941 when her brother John F. Mikesic was born. A life-long mutual friendship between the siblings full of love and respect had begun. In her youth, Mary Ann developed a love of performing and along with her brother John served in the well-known Kolo Club, which sang and danced across the area for years. Tambura music was a big part of their lives. Mary Ann never married even though there was no shortage of suiters for the beautiful woman. When asked by her nephews why she never married, she simply flashed her beautiful smile and said, "None of them were good enough for me." She was woman-strong before it was vogue. Mary Ann was employed by KCP & L where she served as a buyer for decades. She was known as a dedicated, hard worker. The long-time employee retired in 1994 in order to provide more care for her aging mother. It was during this time when she really began to grow as a cook and baker. Of course, she had the extremely watchful eyes of Mary B. to guide her to do things just right. She was a committed apprentice and eventually the young girl that once made biscuits even the dog wouldnt eat (true story) had become one of the finest cooks any kitchen had known. The greatest loves of Mary Ann were her church, family, music and cooking. Often, these loves collided in her daily activities. She served her church with the Senior Citizens Group, the Altar Society and was a dedicated member of the Bereavement Committee. She spent countless hours helping the ladies of the parish make povitica and strudel for the church socials and other activities. Some of her most fulfilling moments however, happened at her own dining room table. For decades, the family would gather at that table after Sunday mass to have breakfast together. And during choir season, Wednesday night dinners were a staple. The true gift however was not the food served even though it was always delicious and tasted like love. The true gift was the countless memories of those who ate at Aunt Mary Anns Caf. But she may well have been best known as member of St. Cecilia Choir, where she sang for over 60 years. All these activities over decades of giving to the community pretty much led to her being Aunt Mary Ann to everyone on Strawberry Hill. Mary Ann lived a long, happy, fulfilling life. When it was time, she passed on without a long, hard illness. She was indeed a beautiful soul and her smile was not only ever present, it was infectious. Her angelic voice will no longer flow down to the congregation from the choir loft. She will be missed and life, especially Sunday mornings, will never be the same for those left behind. She is survived by her sister in law, Paula Mikesic, three nephews, John Mikesic (Beckie), Michael Mikesic (Donna) and Richard Mikesic (Kristina), one great nephew, Andrew Mikesic and 4 great nieces Carissa Mikesic, Sarah Mikesic, Michayla Mikesic and Anna Mikesic. In lieu of flowers, Mary Ann would greatly appreciate memorials dedicated to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, the church she loved and served faithfully for her entire life.
