Joseph Albert Mootz, known affectionally as Joe, passed away on July 11, 2024, at the age of 90 in Kansas City, KS. Born on December 16, 1933, in Kansas City, KS, Joe dedicated a significant portion of his youth serving his country as a Sergeant during the Korean War from 1950 to 1953, demonstrating commendable bravery and leadership.  

After his honorable discharge, Joe continued to serve his community closer to home, working as a city electrician at Kansas City, Kansas City Hall.  

Joe had a zest for life and a particular fondness for the thrill of the casino. His love for gaming was only matched by the love he had for his family. He leaves behind a loving sister, Helen Emerson; his children, Julie (Mark), Cathy (Scott), Deanna (Jim), and Mike; along with his cherished grandchildren, Joseph Barnes (Erin), Scott Mann (Kaelean), Boyd Mann, Danielle Willis (Brad), and Eric Mann. Joe was also a proud great-grandfather to nine great-grandchildren.  

He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Mootz; his parents, Martin Mootz and Mary Kovac (Mootz); and his siblings, Angie, Mary, Bill, Marty, and David.  

Joe's legacy is marked by his service, both military and civic, and his deep love for his family. His life was a testament to the impact one individual can have on both their country and their community. Joe will be dearly missed and forever remembered.

A Visitation will be held in Joe's honor on Tuesday, July 16, 2024 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Skradski Funeral Home, 340 N. 6th St., Kansas City, KS 66101. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place the next day, Wednesday, July 17, 2024 starting at 10:00am at Holy Family Church, 274 Orchard St., Kansas City, KS 66101. Interment will take place at Leavenworth National Cemetery.
