Joseph John Oberle, 60, loving husband, father, uncle, and son, passed from this life into the arms of his parents, John and Rose Oberle on Sunday, November 1, 2020. Visitation will be Thursday, November 5, 2020 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 5501 Monticello Road, Shawnee, Kansas. Funeral mass will begin at 10:30 a.m., followed by internment at Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery. During this time of Covid, the funeral mass will be live-streamed for those that choose watch from home.
Joe was born in Atessa, Chieti, Italy on December 8, 1959. Joe spent the first 18 months of his life in an orphanage in Italy, before he was chosen by Father Rocco Faiola to be matched with his forever parents in Kansas City, Kansas.
Joe attended Christ the King grade school in Kansas City, Kansas, Bishop Ward and Schlagle High School, and received a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Washburn University. Joe began working for United Parcel Service (UPS) while in college, and chose to continue working for them following graduation as a package car driver before moving into management. Joes greatest professional marker was in Loss Prevention, where he rounded out a 35 year career. Joe bled brown. He was proud to be a part of such an amazing team, and thrived on the challenges he faced every day.
Joe never took anything for granted. He met the love of his life, Gina (DiGiovanni) in August of 1991 and was married January of 1992. He wanted to find his forever partner, and Gina was just that. The two of them loved their three sons, John, Nick (Nin), and Joe Vince and this family was everything to Joe. His passion and unwavering commitment to them was seen on his face every day.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law George DiGiovanni, brother Michael and sister Lisa. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Gina, sons John, Nick (Nin), and Joe Vince. His mother-in-law Virginia DiGiovanni, sister-in-law Dina (Mark) Hill, brother-in-law Joe (Angel) DiGiovanni, niece Angela (Jimmy) Mancuso, nephews Pete (Melanie) Cuezze, Joseph (Andrea) DiGiovanni, and Anthony DiGiovanni. Joe never met a stranger and leaves so many friends that he considered family, especially his brothers in brown.
