Joseph K. "Joe" Thompson, 85, passed away September 1, 2016 following a brief illness. Visitation will be Saturday, Sept. 3 from 10-11 AM with the Mass of Christian Burial following at The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 416 W. 12th St., Kansas City, MO. Private interment will be at Mt. Olivet. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions to St. Lukes Hospice or The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Church.
Joe was born on or about May 27, 1931 in Buick, MO to Grover C. and Julia A. Thompson. He was born in the middle of the woods and hollows of the Missouri Ozarks which he dearly loved. There was never an unexplored road, trail or stretch of water around Joe. He instilled this sense of curiosity and wonder about the nature around him to his children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Lawrence, Eric and Howard Thompson; in-laws Joseph and Sofia Suljak. Survived by his wife, Katherine, whom he wed 60 years ago to the day - Sept. 1, 1956; a son, Michael Thompson and wife Laura; a daughter, Nancy Dorle and husband Christopher; grandchildren, Mark, Mickey and Lauren Thompson, Andrew and Matthew Dorle. He will be dearly missed. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.skradskifh-kc.com
