In Loving Memory of John Richard Radencich
March 25, 1946 – September 29, 2024
It is with heavy hearts and deep sorrow that we announce the passing of John Richard Radencich, a generous and beloved son, brother, and active community volunteer. John was born on March 25, 1946, in Kansas City, Kansas to John and Catherine (Ceranich) Radencich. John peacefully departed this life on September 29, 2024, in Kansas City, Missouri, due to natural causes. John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Catherine Radencich, brother Michael D. Radencich and wife Margie.
John attended St. John the Baptist Grade School and Ward High School, where he fostered lifelong friendships and a passion for generosity. His quest for education led him to Rockhurst University where he earned a bachelor’s degree, followed by a master’s degree in liberal sciences from the University of Michigan.
Johns’ commitment to education did not stop at his academic achievements. He devoted much of his career to Florida International University, where he served as the librarian.
A proud Vietnam veteran, John served honorably in the U.S. Army and was awarded the Bronze Star, with Oak Cluster, for his meritorious service and exemplary dedication. John’s military service was a testament to his enduring commitment to his country and community.
John was an avid reader, a passionate wine collector, Civil War history enthusiast, golfer, and published author. He found joy in traveling the world, writing journals of his adventures, and sharing those with family and friends.
John was a giving individual who enjoyed the outcomes of his volunteer activities, including tutoring underprivileged immigrants from countries like Haiti, assisting at local food pantries and helping family or close friends in times of need.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the loving and attentive staff at St. Lukes Hospice House for their compassionate care of John.
A funeral service to honor John’s life will be held at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. Details of the service will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in John’s name to the Strawberry Hill Museum, an institution that preserves the rich cultural heritage of the community John held dear.
John Richad Radencich’s legacy of kindness, service and love will live on in the hears of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
Rest in Peace, John. Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure. You are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.
