John F. Novak

John Francis Novak, 84, of Basehor, Kansas, passed away Thursday April 20, 2023 at Advent Health of Shawnee, KS. Funeral services will be Friday, April 28th, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 708 N. 4th Street, Kansas City, KS, with the visitation at 9:30AM to 10:30AM, and a following Mass at 10:30AM. The burial is to follow the Mass at Holy Angels Cemetery in Basehor, Kansas.

John was born on February 1st, 1939 to John and Helen Novak in Kansas City, Kansas. He graduated from Washington High School and then from Barber School, and was also a part of the National Guard. John married Joann (Jancich) in 1964, and had a son, John Michael, and a daughter, Rita, prompting them to move to Basehor. He was a Barber for over 40 years, owning Sunset Barber Shop in Kansas City, Kansas. He also was the proud owner of Crown Liquor at 55th and Leavenworth Road for 16 years. John made his presence known in Basehor where he served on the City Council, Water Board, and belonged to the Knights of Columbus. He loved his Croatian roots and sharing them with his family, who he loved most of all.

John is survived by his wife, Joann, children: John Michael and Rita Terryberry, son-in-law Shawn Terryberry, and his grandchildren: Sophia and Olivia.
