Joan 'Joanie' Marie Horvat

Our sister, Joan Marie Horvat, passed away following a brief illness on July 6, 2021.
Joan was a 40+-year dedicated professional, beginning in the clerical pool as the fastest typist on the IBM Selectric to master of todays technology. She served in executive administrative positions for esteemed companies such as Mobil Oil Corp, American Century Investments and, most recently, Childrens Mercy Hospital where she was only two-months shy of retirement. Joan was the familys go-to proofreader and her grammar was impeccable. She had a fondness for old-school etiquette and manners.
Joanie was a proud graduate of St. John the Baptist grade school. She checked a huge item off her bucket list in 2018 when she traveled with her two sisters on a 10-day pilgrimage to Croatia. Her next item was winning the lottery, but you cant win them allߙ‚.
Joan is best known as "Aunt Joanie" to her many nieces, nephews, and eventually great- nieces and nephews. She was the queen of sleepovers, shopping trips, movies, and birthdays. She never missed a milestone occasion and always found the perfect card to mark the day.
Joan was predeceased by her parents, Irene B. Bruson Horvat and Joseph G. Horvat, a brother, Joseph A. Horvat (Joko), and niece, Elizabeth Jane Koehler. She is survived by sisters Julianne Yarnevich (Henry), Janet Koehler (Tom), sister-in-law Sandy Horvat and brother Jim Horvat (Sherrie).
Joanies services will be Wednesday, July 14th, 2021, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Overland Park, KS. Visitation will be from 12:00 1:00 p.m. followed by Mass of the Resurrection at 1:00 p.m.
If you choose to donate in Joanies name, we suggest her favorite organization, The Little Sisters of the Poor, 8745 James A. Reed Road, KCMO, 64138.
We were fortunate to call her sister. We know shes knocking on Heavens door saying, "Aunt Joanies Here!"
