Helen B. Bert, 93 died peacefully at home on May19, 2015.
Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 AM on Friday, May 22, 2015 at her parish of St. Joseph Catholic Church, 5901 Flint St., Shawnee, KS followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM. Rite of inurnment will be at a later date.
Born on Strawberry Hill, Kansas City, Kansas she was a lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. She graduated from Bishop Ward High School and Providence Hospital School of Nursing and was accepted into the United States Cadet Nurses Corps in 1943. She served a tour of duty in the United States Army Nurse Corps in Korea and was recalled to active duty during the Berlin Crisis of 1961. She graduated from the University of St. Francis with a BS. Helen spent her career in hospital and industrial nursing, private practice and retired from the profession after 19 years as the Wyandotte High School Nurse. In retirement she kept busy in sales, hospice work and with the Prairie Village Presbyterian Church child care program for 19 years. She was a member of The American Legion and Kansas Association of Retired School Personnel.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and brother. Leaving nephews James Bert, Michael [Mary] Vrabac and nieces Elizabeth Vrabac and Marilyn [Takao] Ishii; Eight grandnieces and nephews and four great-grandniece and nephews. She was fondly called "Teti" by family and friends.
