Gary D. Grable, 75, left this world on May 18, 2017. Born in Doniphan County, KS, to Frances and Ervin Grable, Gary moved to Kansas City, KS, with his family in 1942 and lived here his entire life. He graduated from Lowell School, Wyandotte High School, Donnelly College and Rockhurst University. A character bigger than life, Gary impacted many lives and careers in Wyandotte County and beyond. A banker by trade, he was President of Wyandotte Bank and Home State Bank in KCK and then Chairman of the Board of Guaranty Bank & Trust, and later in life, worked at Security Bank of Kansas City and Community First Bank where he served until his death. His counsel was sought by many and his sage advice was not for the faint of heart. He could argue any side of a debate, often taking the contrarian side just for the sake of a really good argument and to test the strength of his opponent. Perhaps Gary's greatest contribution was to his beloved community. He served in many roles in Wyandotte County through the years - President of the Jaycees, Chairman of the Civil Service Commission, Director for Wyandotte County United Way, chair of the Committee to Unity the City and County Governments, Chair of Wyandotte Development, Inc., chair of the Wyandotte County Fair Board, chair of Kaw Valley Center, Charter Member of the KCK Downtown Shareholders, Treasurer of the Kansas City, Kansas Convention and Visitors Bureau and Chairman of the KCK Chamber of Commerce, just to name a few. Gary was preceded in death by his parents and middle son, Steven L. Grable. He is survived by his brother, Kenneth Grable, sons, Scott (Nancy) and Jeff (Bilee Jo) Grable of Kansas City, KS, and daughter, Brandi Grable of North Kansas City; grandchildren, Linda Lee, Alex, Nick, Sean, Brooke, Hope, Hunter, Catherine, Wyatt and Beau. Our memories will be of his huge heart, his ability to "make things happen" and his love of family and friends. We will miss him very much. Please join family in a memorial and Celebration of Life from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, May 24, at Wyandotte County Fairgrounds Community Building, 13700 Polfer Rd, Kansas City, KS. In lie of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Wyandotte County Fair Shooting Club, a project that was near and dear to Gary's heart and which he was actively working to build over the last year. Checks can be sent to 13700 Polfer Road, Kansas City, KS 66109.
