On Friday May 10, 2024, Frances M. Kampa (Dutch) Walters, age 92, left this earth and went to be with her Heavenly Father.
She was born March 30, 1932, to Paul Phillip Kampa and Anna Stowoway Kampa in Kansas City Kansas where she lived her entire life. Frances was devoted to her Catholic faith from a very young age and that continued throughout her life. She and her family joined St. Peters Cathedral Parish in 1970 and belonged there for many years. Most recently she was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church (KCK). Over the years she very much enjoyed attending mass at many different parishes depending on where her activities took her.
Frances retired from KU Medical Center in 1992. She was a volunteer at many different places, wherever she felt she could make a difference. An enthusiastic gardener and lover of flowers and plants, Frances could grow anything, anywhere, even if it was in someone else’s yard. She enjoyed travelling to many different places and seeing things she had read about somewhere. After her retirement she “worked” part time for friends Michael and Terry Rebout delivering flowers and helping in the office at Michael’s Heritage Florist in KCK.
Frances was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Donald W. Walters (1976), children Phillip and Rose, siblings Theresa Ouderkirk, Florence (Flo) Sagan, George Kampa, Henry (Hank) Brimer, Judy Thompson, and Michael Brimer. She is survived by one sister, Jeanine Spees of KCMO, her children Steve, Lee Ann, Donnie, and Anita (Charles), 10 grandchildren and at least 6 great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind very dear and wonderful friends who were with her through everything, Fr. Dan Gardner, Michael and Terry Rebout and their families, and Ginny Rector. Her friends were her second family and more important than they will ever know.
A special thank you to the nurses and staff at RiverBend Post Acute Rehabilitation. They cared for Frances over the past 2 years and came to know and understand her spirited manner. For the nurses and aides at Gentiva Hospice who helped make her last days comfortable, we appreciate all your compassion and care. Along with taking care of Frances, you helped her friends and family in such a difficult time.
A funeral mass will be held Wednesday May 22, 2024, at St Patrick’s Catholic Church followed by a graveside service. Burial will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery in KCK. Her family and friends request donations to a special organization of your choice or to Gentiva Hospice Foundation in Lenexa, Kansas.
