Elia Orfila De La Garza Ibarra

Elia Orfila de la Garza Ibarra, age 96, passed away in her sleep November 15, 2019 in Kansas City, KS. Born and raised in El Porvenir, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, she was a resident of Kansas City, KS since 1961 until the time of her passing. Elia was preceded in death by her father, Salvador de la Garza, her mother, Paula Elizondo de la Garza, and her brothers, Zeferino de la Garza (Elodia, still living) and Salvador E. de la Garza (Margarita). Elia is survived by her beloved husband of nearly 60 years, Dr. Richard C Ibarra; sons, Richard Jr. (Leslie), John (Mary), and Joseph F. (Margaret); seven grandchildren, Stephanie (Chase) Peterson, Anthony Ibarra, Michael Ibarra, Elena Ibarra, Joseph S. Ibarra, Gabriela Ibarra and Cruz Ibarra; several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law and many nieces and nephews. Elia met Richard after he completed medical school in Mexico while performing his rural medical social service in El Porvenir. They were married in December 1959 in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico and, shortly thereafter, Elia immigrated to the United States and moved with Richard to the Kansas City area. Once Richard interned and completed his residency at St. Margaret Hospital in Kansas City, KS, Elia and Richard settled nearby in the area known as Polish Hill. Richard started a family medical practice in the neighborhood and Elia supported him as an administrative assistant. Together they served the local multi-ethnic community with primary health care services until Richard retired in 1990. Elia was dedicated to raising her family and enjoyed gardening. Her love of roses and green thumb are legendary. Her roses and hibiscus were admired for their bounty and beauty while no flowering plant was spared a clipping for transplant in her garden. She had a lifelong adoration for Our Lady of Guadalupe, a love for Saint John Paul II, and a dedication to Catholic tradition, especially the praying of the rosary. She endeared herself to many, English and Spanish-speaking alike, through her kindness and generosity. Elia and Richard were lifelong members of St. Joseph/St. Benedict parish, later All Saints parish. They served as sacristans and acolytes for many years. Their involvement in church life was an inspiration to parishioners and the priests that served the parish. Visitation will be held on Tuesday November 26, 2019, from 5:00-7:00PM, with the Rosary said at 7:00PM, at All Saints Catholic Church, 811 Vermont Ave., Kansas City, KS 66101. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at 10:00 AM also at All Saints Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum, 1150 N. 38th St., Kansas City, KS 66102. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to All Saints Catholic Church.

Nacida y criada en El Porvenir, Nuevo Len, Mxico, ella era residente de Kansas City, KS desde 1961 hasta que falleci. Elia fue precedida en la muerte por su padre, Salvador de la Garza, su madre Paula Elizondo de la Garza, y sus hermanos, Zeferino de la Garza (Elodia, todava viviendo) y Salvador E. de la Garza (Margarita). Elia y Richard se casaron en Diciembre de 1959 en Nuevo Laredo, Mxico y poco despus Elia emigr a los Estados Unidos y se mud con Richard al rea de la ciudad de Kansas City. Despus que Richard hizo su pasanta mdica en el hospital de St. Margaret en Kansas City, KS y complet su residencia mdica, Elia y Richard se establecieron cerca en el rea conocida como Polish Hill. Richard comenz una prctica mdica familiar en la comunidad y Elia lo apoy con el trabajo administrativo. Juntos sirvieron a la comunidad multitnica con los servicios de atencin primaria de salud hasta que Richard se jubil en el ao 1990. Elia se dedic a cuidar a su familia y disfrut de la jardinera. Su amor por las rosas y su buena mano para las plantas son legendarios. Sus rosas y sus hibiscos fueron admirados por su abundancia y belleza mientras que ninguna planta se salv de ser podada para ser trasplantada en su jardn. Toda su vida Elia tubo una adoracin por la Virgen de Guadalupe, un cario por San Juan Pablo II y una dedicacin a la tradicin Catlica, especialmente la Oracin del Rosario. Ella se gan el cario de muchos, tanto los que hablaban ingls como espaol, a travs de su amabilidad y generosidad. Elia y Richard fueron miembros de la parroquia de St. Joseph/St. Benedict de toda la vida, despus conocida como la parroquia de All Saints. Sirvieron como sacristn y aclitos durante muchos aos. Su participacin en la vida de la iglesia fue una inspiracin para los feligreses y los sacerdotes que sirvieron a la parroquia. El velorio se llevar a cabo el Martes 26 de Noviembre, 2019 de 5:00 - 7:00PM con el rezo del Rosario a las 7:00PM en la Iglesia Catlica de All Saints, 811 Vermont Ave., Kansas City, KS 66101. La Misa de Entierro Cristiano se celebrar el Mircoles 27 de Noviembre, 2019 a las 10:00AM en la misma Iglesia de All Saints. El entierro seguir en el mausoleo del Cementerio de Mount Calvary, 1150 N. 38th St., Kansas City, KS 66102. En vez de flores la familia sugiere donaciones a la Iglesia Catlica de All Saints.
