Donald R. “Don” Sales, 59, of Leavenworth, KS, passed away March 13, 2025. Services honoring Don’s life will be Monday, March 24 at St. John the Baptist Church, 708 N. 4th St., Kansas City, KS 66101. The visitation will be at 9:00 with the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00. Burial with full military honors will be at Leavenworth National Cemetery.
Don was born on May 3, 1965, in Healdsburg, California, to Alfonso and Patricia (Babcock) Sales. Don served 26 years in the US Army, serving multiple combat tours. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his exceptionally meritorious service while assigned to the 43rd Combat Engineer Company. He served proudly and loved his family dearly. He always wished for family to stay together, pray together and participate in his "forced fun" activities. He loved to joke and laugh. He enjoyed face timing, playing the piano and other instruments and small plane rides.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Cathy Sales, and his grandparents who raised him, Alfonso and Angelina Sales. He is survived by his three oldest children, Kimberly, Melissa and Amber (Keliihoomalu) and 2 grandchildren. He is also survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Laura and their 3 children, Sabrina, Dominic and Olivia; 3 siblings, Bob, Barbara (Miksis) and Mike; 4 in law siblings, Alan and Stephan Zuk and Janice and Mike Brock; Father and Mother in law, Walter and Eleanor Zuk, whom he fondly called, Ma and Wally; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and God Children. Don loved so many, but all just accepted, his greatest love was quite possibly, GeorgeE, his dog, his best friend.
For the past 10 years he suffered with Huntingtons Disease. He put his life on the line trying to find a cure. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Huntington’s Disease Youth Organization
