David Andervich of Edwardsville, Kansas passed away on January 11, 2025 at the age of 87. At the time of his death, he was a resident of Delmar Gardens of Overland Park. David was born to George Andervich and Helen Martel Andervich on February 15, 1937 in Kansas City, Kansas. The family moved to St. Louis briefly after his birth, returning to Kansas City, Kansas in 1942. Other than that brief time period, David was a lifelong resident of Kansas City, Kansas. David was married to Charlotte Wuertley in Kansas City, Kansas on April 12, 1969. They had two children, Nancy, born in 1970, and Stephanie, born in 1975.
David was a veteran of the United States Army. He served three years after high school, and was honorably discharged. He came home to Kansas City and worked at Ussery Auto Body before he became employed by Trans World Airlines, where he was a ground equipment mechanic for more than thirty years before his retirement. David had an ability to fix almost anything that was broken. He was able to keep a vehicle running long past the point where someone else might give up, and brought many a vehicle back from sure salvage status.
David was a member of the Board of Supervisors for the Wyandotte Country Conservation District for more than thirty years. He greatly enjoyed working on the programs of the District, especially the educational programs for students. David was a strong supporter of Wyandotte County 4-H and the Wyandotte County Fair Association from the time his children were 4-H club members. He volunteered for many years for the Fair Association, and continued to do so after Charlotte’s passing in 2015. He repaired many pieces of the organization’s equipment over the years and spent many hours helping to maintain the grounds and manage the activities during the Fair. He and Charlotte also were strong supporters of the Wyandotte County Horse project. Charlotte served as project leader for many years, and the two of them worked so hard to help the project members have a good experience.
David was preceded in death by his parents, George and Helen Andervich, and his sister, JoAnn Robinson. His wife, Charlotte, passed in 2015, and he missed her very much after her passing. We are sure their reunion was a happy one. David’s pets were an important part of his life. He was absolutely a “dog person,” and you could count on him making friends with any dog he met. We are sure that all his animals that passed before him, from his boyhood dog, Freckles, to Spice, his cat that passed in December, were there to greet him and welcome him home. His two dogs Molly and Secret will miss him terribly. David is survived by his daughters, Nancy Andervich of Kansas City, Kansas and Stephanie McAlexander of Cleveland, MO. We want to extend our thanks to Delmar Gardens of Overland Park and to the Advanced Heart Failure Clinic at the University of Kansas Medical Center for the wonderful care and support they gave David.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to the Wyandotte County Fair Association; to the Wyandotte County Conservation District; or to Lawrence Humane Society. Visitation will be held at St. Mary-St. Anthony Church in Kansas City, Kansas at 9 AM on Thursday, January 16, 2025, with a Rosary at 10 AM and Mass of Christian Burial at 10:15 AM. Internment will follow at Mr. Calvary Cemetery, also in Kansas City, Kansas.
