There will be a celebration of life and mass of Christian burial for Chris Hurla on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at Saint Patricks Catholic Church, 1086 N 94th, Kansas City, KS. Visitation is at 9:30 a.m. followed by Mass at 11:00 a.m.
Chris was born at St. Margarets Hospital in Kansas City, Kansas on May 16, 1955. He was the second child to George Francis and Dorothy June (Cunningham) Hurla and best known for a deep devotion to his family and friends. His work ethic was unparalleled, and a keen intellect, complemented by equal parts love of people and numbers, served him well. He earned his success working his way to Territory Sales Manager for Lifetouch, Inc. until his passing. He valued his Lifetouch team. This professional connection brought him much joy over the years as it brought out his natural affinity for coaching and leading.
Early in his career he was the proprietor of Bethel Tavern in Kansas City, KS. It was there where lifelong friendships were forged and no doubt, many of the worlds problems solved. Chris enjoyed baseball and good music. His "love of the game" was pure. He was a longtime Royals' season ticket holder experiencing the World Series Game 7 win in 1985 with his father and 2015 with one of his daughters. He could also be spotted at The Record Bar or Knuckleheads enjoying his favorite bands, especially Bob Walkenhorst and the Rainmakers.
Chris leaves three daughters, Tracy Doherty (Jamison Hendler) of Santa Rosa Beach, FL, Carrie Dean (Jay), Olathe, KS and Christen Spencer (Devin) of Fort Worth, TX. His five grand-children, Bailey, Brady and Hayes Dean and Draven and Donovan Spencer, will miss him dearly. As will siblings, Dennis Hurla, Doris Hurla, Joan Widener (John), Larry Hurla and Mary Spangler and several nieces, nephews and cousins, especially the Cunningham family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Cancer Research Center at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN and Bishop Ward High School Scholarship Fund, Kansas City, KS.
