Charlotte Ann Andervich

April 4, 1943 — October 9, 2015

Charlotte Andervich passed away on Friday, October 9, 2015, at Providence Medical Center. She defeated cancer once, but was unable to do so the second time the disease came to her. While we will miss her every day, we take comfort that she is no longer in pain, and that she awaits her family and friends in Heaven.
Charlotte Ann (Wuertley) Andervich was born on April 4, 1943 in Belleville, IL to E. Howard and Ruth (Foulk) Wuertley. In 1947, the family moved to Summersville, Missouri, to the family farm. Charlotte's first school experience was a one room school house called Griffith School. She attended Summersville High School, graduating in 1962.
Charlotte was very musically gifted, and could play almost any instrument she picked up. Her talent helped establish the drum and bugle corps in Summersville, and she played Taps for many a funeral in her high school years. She played clarinet in the marching band and orchestra and the guitar, banjo, and piano just for fun.
After graduating from high school Charlotte attended St John's School of Nursing in Springfield. She graduated in 1965 and followed her mother's footsteps into nursing, becoming a registered nurse.
Shortly after graduation from St. John's, she moved to Kansas City to begin her nursing career. She worked at Menorah Medical Center and at St. Mary's Hospital. Eventually, she found her way to Providence Medical Center, where she worked for the last 37 years of her career. She was a night supervisor, was highly instrumental in the initial setup and operations of the Pain Center at that facility, and was a nurse in the Outpatient Department for many years. She retired in 2005, but worked on a part-time basis in the Outpatient Department for nine years after that.
Charlotte truly loved being a nurse. When she was answering a patient's questions about cancer treatments, starting an IV for a patient that had small blood vessels on the first stick of the needle, or mentoring younger nurses in her department, she was in her element. She understood the anxiety that patients can face about their treatment, and did her best to alleviate it.
This caring found its way to her personal life, and she provided much help to her mother-in-law Helen Andervich and her husband's aunt Helen Duff in their later years.
Charlotte was also an active volunteer. She became involved in Wyandotte County 4-H when her children joined in 1980, and remained active long after they graduated from the program. She was a Community Leader for Chaparral 4-H Club for more than 30 years, helping several generations of 4-H'ers learn the importance of serving their communities, gain the public speaking ability that goes along with being a club officer and presenting project talks at monthly meetings, and understand the importance of making a commitment and sticking by that commitment, and all of the other lessons 4-H teaches its members.
She was also a long-time leader for the 4-H Horse Project in Wyandotte County. Charlotte loved horses, and loved the lessons they taught young people.
She also served for many years on the board of the Wyandotte County Fair Association, most recently serving as treasurer.
Charlotte married David Andervich in 1969 in Kansas City, Kansas, and they had been married for 46 years at the time of her passing. Charlotte also enjoyed bowling and travel. Her husband worked for TWA for many years, and they were able to travel through his employment.
Charlotte is survived by her husband, David, of the home; daughter Nancy of Kansas City, Kansas, and daughter Stephanie of Cleveland, Missouri; siblings Muriel (Walter) Shriver of Ozark, Missouri; Charles (Brenda) Wuertley of Summersville, Missouri; and Donald Wuertley of Ozark, Missouri; and seven nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, E. Howard and Ruth Wuertley; her older brother, Marshall Wuertley; and two nephews, Edwin Wuertley and Michael Wuertley. The Funeral Mass will be 10 AM Wed. 10/14 at St.Mary/St.Anthony Catholic Church, 615 N. 7th St.,KC, KS with burial following in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:30 to 8:00 PM Tues, 10/13, at Skradski Funeral Home, 340 N. 6th, KC, KS. The family would appreciate donations to Wyandotte County Fair Assoc. or to Breast Cancer Research Foundation, 60 E. 56th St., 8th Floor, New York, NY 10022. Condolences: www.skradskifh-kc.com
