Cecilia Ann Bishop, age 83, of Gardner, passed away June 6th, 2023. Cecilia was born on Strawberry Hill in Kansas City, Kansas and later grew up on the family farm located in western Wyandotte County. She graduated from Washington High School and attended Pittsburgh State University where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and a secondary education certificate.
After graduating from Pittsburgh State University, she returned to Washington High School where she taught Biology for two years. Wanting a different career challenge and change of scenery, she took a job within the research division of pharmaceutical company, Parke-Davis and relocated to Rochester Hills, Michigan. While at Parke-Davis, she met her future husband, Donald Bishop, while playing together on the company softball team. She and Don married in 1968 and moved to Troy, Michigan. She continued to live in Troy with Don, stepdaughter Dawn and her son, Scott until 1981, when Don passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack.
In 1982, she moved back to Kansas City, Kansas to be closer to family. It was then that she followed her passion for healthcare and graduated from Kansas City Kansas Community College with an associate degree in nursing. She worked at Truman Medical Center, Providence Medical Center, and, eventually, Bethany Medical Center to focus on caring for cardiac intensive care patients until retiring in 2001.
After retiring, Cecilia continued her passion for caring for others by caring for her mother and being the adoring grandmother to her grandchildren, Parker and Aidan. In 2009, wanting to be able to spend more time with Parker and Aidan, she moved to Gardner, Kansas where she attended all their after-school activities and watched the boys after school. She was a member of the Divine Mercy parish in Gardner, where she volunteered in many activities.
Cecilia was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2016 and valiantly fought the disease until her passing. She was fiercely independent, living on her own (and on her own terms) until the end.
Cecilia was preceded in death by her husband, Don; her parents Anthony & Marie Kosorog; her brothers John Kosorog, Ken Kosorog, and Raymond Kosorog; and her sister, Kathy Daniels. She is survived by her son, Scott Bishop and daughter-in-law, Michelle; stepdaughter Dawn Hubbard; grandchildren, James Hubbard, Caitlin Hubbard, Parker Bishop and Aidan Bishop; sister, Annette O’Connor; nephews and nieces, Barbara Childress, Laura Daniels, Christine Lau, Eric O’Connor, Hillary Rao and Justin O’Connor; and many others.
