Carol Yankovich

May 17, 1936 — June 7, 2024

Carol Ann (Kaminski) Yankovich, 88, Kansas City, Kansas passed away peacefully on June 7, 2024.

Visitation will start at 9:00 am followed by mass at 10:00 am on Saturday, July 20th, 2024, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1086 N. 94th St., Kansas City, KS. A Celebration of Life luncheon will immediately follow at the parish center. The family welcomes all who knew and loved Carol to join them in celebrating her life.

Carol was born on May 17, 1936, to Edward and Nellie (Rucinski) Kaminski. She was raised in the Polish Hill area in Kansas City, KS, attended St. Joseph Grade School and graduated from Bishop Ward High School in 1954. She married James A. Yankovich on September 29, 1956.

A devoted wife and mother, Carol dedicated her time to her family, hosting large extended family holiday meals and inviting others to join who otherwise would not have anywhere to go. She enjoyed working in her yard, ceramics, baking and sewing. She was known for sewing matching outfits for herself and her young daughters and sharing her delicious baked goods.

Once her children were older, she entered the working world as a nurse aide and then moved to banking where she managed a motor bank in the Turner area for almost 30 years.

Carol was a long-time and very active member of St. Patrick Parish, serving as president of the Altar Society and Our Lady of Fatima Circle for several years.  She was involved with many fundraisers including steak and fish dinners and ice cream socials; tirelessly planning, prepping, serving, and cleaning up. She baked and donated hundreds of cakes, pies and cookies. She also volunteered at St. Patrick School for several years while her children attended as room mother, volleyball coach, Camp Fire Girl leader, and helped with various events and fundraisers. Whatever was going on in the parish and school, Carol was there to serve and go the extra mile.

Carol also volunteered for many years at St. Mary Food Kitchen, coordinating, preparing and serving meals to those in need. She ‘adopted’ families during the holidays collecting and presenting gifts to them to make their holidays warmer and brighter. Carol never knew a stranger, striking up a conversation with everyone wherever she went.

Carol is preceded in death by her parents Edward Kaminski and Nellie Kaminski, her brothers Raymond, Sylvester (‘Sonny’) and Richard Kaminski and her sister Bernadine Kolich.

Survivors include her husband, James Yankovich, of Kansas City, KS; a son, James Yankovich II, of Boca Raton, FL; two daughters, Cynthia Yankovich (Kirk), of Rancho Santa Fe, CA and Lisa Covert (Geoff) of Naples, FL; one granddaughter, Elyse Zauchenberger (Michael) of Overland Park, KS and one great-grandson, Theodore Zauchenberger, and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Carol’s memory to St. Patrick Altar Society, 1086 N. 94th St., Kansas City, Kansas 66112 or Olathe Hospice House, 15310 S. Marion St., Olathe, KS 66061.

Carol will be remembered for her tireless service to the church and community, vibrant spirit, work ethic, and the love she shared with all. May she rest in eternal peace, knowing that her legacy lives on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to have known her.
