Bernice (Seck) Callaghan Dhooghe, 100 of Kansas City, Kansas, died March 6, at Providence Place. Friends may call Monday, March 14, 2016 from 10-11:00 a.m. at Christ The King Catholic Church, 3024 North 53rd Street, Kansas City, Kansas. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 with burial following at Resurrection Cemetery, Lenexa. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Christ the King Catholic Church or The Keeler Women's Center, 2220 Central Avenue, Kansas City, Kansas 66102.
Bernice was born January 13, 1916, on a farm in Wea, Kansas, to Lawrence Adam Seck and Anna Christine Schleicher. Her mother died in 1961, and her father in 1986. She had four siblings: Jerome, Gilbert, Eleanor and Eileen.
Bernice attended Wea Grade School and Wea High School. After graduation she moved to Kansas City, Kansas, and worked for Nelly Don Dress Company. In 1937, she married Edward Callaghan. He died in 1962 and in 1971 she married John Dhooghe until his death in 1984.
She was preceded in death by brother, Gilbert; sister, Eleanor Pickert; and grandson, Patrick Callaghan. Survivors include her sons Bernard (Pat) and Denis (Donna) and stepson, Jack Dhooghe. Eight grandchildren: John (Sheila) Callaghan, Mary (Rick) Windholz, Edward (Valerie) Callaghan, Maria (Rodney) Good, Tim (Stacy) Callaghan, Marc (Tina) Callaghan, Nick (Jaime) Callaghan, Molly (Matt) Sanderson, and 24 great grandchildren. Her brother, Jerome (Evelyn), and sister, Eileen Farnen also survive, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
