Bernice Kusan, 88 of Basehor, Kansas passed away January 20, 2020 at the Health Care Resort in Kansas City, Ks. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00AM Saturday, February 1st at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 94th & State, KCK. Inurnment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, 701 N. 94th St. KCK. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick Catholic Church. Bernice was born May 15, 1931 in Kansas City, Kansas to Mirko and Rose (Butkovic) Kusan. She grew up in the Strawberry Hill area and attended St. John the Baptist Grade School and church. Bernice lived with her sister and brother-in-law, Tony and Mary Lacy most of her adult life. They retired and moved to Basehor in 1983. She loved gardening and always made sure the flower beds were watered and the bird feeders full. Bernice loved African Violets, which bloomed beautifully in the home, after a compliment she would always respond quickly, "I have a green thumb." She was wonderfully helpful as a baby-sitter for her nieces and nephews. She loved children and they loved her. Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Mary Lacy, Rose Draskovich, Barbara Czerwonka and Helen Baier. She is survived by six nieces and nephews; Marianne Roper of Basehor, Ks, Cynthia Scholtz of Shawnee, Ks., Raymond Lacy of Woodbridge, IL., David Czerwonka, Tony Czerwonka and Rosemary Mulherin of Michigan, along with 14 great nieces and nephews; 20 great great nieces and nephews and 3 great- great-great nieces and nephews.
