Barbara Ann Donahue (Kent), age 76, of Olathe, Kansas, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on July 6, 2015.
Barbara was born April 25, 1939, in Kansas City, Kansas to Hugh Louis Kent and Rose Barbara Lucas. She was raised in the Croatian community of Strawberry Hill in Kansas City, Kansas. She attended St John the Baptist grade school where she graduated from eighth grade in 1953. She went on to attend Wyandotte High School and graduated in 1957. In 1959, Barbara ran for Wyandotte Centennial Queen where she represented the Strawberry Hill community and was a princess of the court. Barbara went on to be an Executive Secretary for 19 years at Owens Corning Fiberglas in Fairfax, Kansas. After being retired for several years, Barbara moved to Las Vegas and fell in love with the travel industry. At age 60, she went back to school to become a travel agent and graduated top in her class with high honors. In her retirement she had the opportunity to spend many memorable moments with her daughters, grandchildren and family. Barbara was very proud of her family and of her Croatian heritage and often spoke of many fond memories of living on Strawberry Hill.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents Hugh Louis Kent and Rose Barbara Thomas (Lucas) and her brother James Kent Sr.
Barbara is survived by her brother Bruce (Julie) Kent, Sister Camille (Patrick) Garrett, daughters; Bobbi-Jo (Ronnie Kramer) Frenette, Kelley (Robert) Phipps; Granddaughters; Jessica Wheeler, Rachel Wheeler, Tara Phipps; Grandsons RJ Kramer, Ryen Phipps, Jacob Crain, Shea Cox. She also has many wonderful nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews that were very near and dear to her heart. Her best friend that she loved dearly, Anne Flenker and her ray of sunshine, Kristina Cunningham.
Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Thurs., July 9 at Skradski Funeral Home, 340 N.6th St., KC,KS with the Rosary at 6:30 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM Friday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 708 N.4th St., KC,KS on Strawberry Hill. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to St. Johns church.
