Frances Anna McMahon Piro, age 93, passed away at Brookdale Memory Care in Overland Park, on September 28, 2017. Anne was born October 22, 1923, in the home of her parents, Anton and Louise (Posnik) Martin. She was the last surviving of 7 siblings, preceded in death by brothers Anthony, Frank, John, and sisters Louise, Mary, and Theresa. As a child, she developed an appetite for competition at Holy Family Parish where she attended school and excelled in softball and other sports. Due to her fathers passing, she joined the work force at a young age. During WWII she contributed to the war effort by soldering electronic components. She married William L. (Buzz) McMahon in 1947. Together, Buzz and Anne raised six children: Bill (Molly), John (Greg), Anne Marie (Kelly), Michael (Renee), Mark (deceased) and Debbie (Doug Cochran), followed by 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Anne loved to sing in the choirs of Holy Trinity (KCMo), Blessed Sacrament (KCK) and St. Frances De Sales (Lansing, KS) parishes. After Buzz passed away, she married David Piro in 2001 and with him they were active in the parish ministry outreach at Ft Leavenworth. David passed away in 2016. Anne was a leader in Altar Society, choir and Great Books programs and added sparkle to all activities. At the age of 47, she learned to play golf, subsequently winning the Kansas Senior Womens Golf Championship. She was President of the Kansas Womens Golf Association in 1980, and continued to enjoy playing golf until age 92. Annes greatest passion was her family, and she was proud that her 5 children all graduated from KU. She also loved the many friends she met through church, golfing, bowling and bridge. She was a fierce competitor who never let anyone win, including her grandchildren. Annes wit, loyalty and energy will be missed by all of her family and friends, including those at the loving community of Brookdale Memory Care. Anne was a perfectionist and a worrier who was accompanied by Hope at the end. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, October 3 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 274 Orchard Street, KC, Ks, at 10:00 am, preceded by the visitation at 9:00 and a Rosary at 8:30 am in the church.
