Anita Jean Dramann Suptic was born on March 2, 1930, in Hays, Kansas, to Edward and Irene Dramann. She was the ninth of 13 children and one of the few born in a hospital. She weighed 5 pounds at birth and remained tiny, gaining the nickname "Peanut." Anita grew on farmland in Zurich until the dust storms and three years of drought drove the family east to farmland outside of Tonganoxie from 1936. While attending Bishop Ward High School in Kansas City, Kansas, she began working as a soda jerk at a local drugstore. There, working the tobacco counter, she met her future husband, George Jerome Suptic. In 1949 she graduated high school and married on August 9. On July 4, 1950, she gave birth to George Michael "George Mike." He would be their only child. George Mike married Mary Lakey in 1978. They had a daughter, Spring, in 1980. She would be their only child.
Anita treasured family time both outdoors and in. In good weather, that meant swimming, camping, fishing, sailing, and riding bikes. At holidays, it was baking treats like apple streusel and pecan povitica. Year-round activities for her were crocheting, square and line dancing, and giving her granddaughter perms.
On July 16, 1990, her husband, George, died from a brain tumor. Anita was his constant caregiver for the final two years of his life. She began to travel and moved to Tarpon Springs, Florida, in 1994. While living in Florida, she met Patrick DAugustino, Jr. The two remained close even after her move back to Kansas.
On September 26, 2013, her son, George Mike, passed away after his second battle with cancer.
On October 11, 2018, Anita passed away peacefully at Olathe Hospice House at the age of 88. She is survived by her granddaughter, Spring Lenox, and her husband James; her daughter-in-law, Mary; her siblings Lionel "Bub" Dramann, JoAnne Hicks, and Jane Woehrman; and many nieces and nephews and honorary grandchildren.
